Packaging With Plastic Bottles and Jars

Many kinds of plastics are used to create cosmetic bottles and jars. Plastic bottles and jars have many advantages over other types of containers. They are lightweight, they are resistant to most chemicals, most types are shatterproof, and they are inexpensive. Plastic bottles and jars can be clear, or opaque. They can be made to look upscale, or dressed down for a more casual look. Although many different types of plastics are used to make cosmetic containers the four most common are: low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate G Copolymer (PET and PETG). LDPE and HDPE are flexible and good for use in squeeze applications (thick lotions for example). PET, PETG, and PP plastics are clear and rigid, and can be used in applications where the product is meant to be on display.
